Inside, our hostel offers tremendous views over the city from our bright, sunny, rooms. We also offer the best facilities, everything from WI-FI internet to a movie room! A delightful garden-patio to a traditional coal fire for those winter nights! And plenty plenty more. …. being at the very heart of the city we are just a stroll from the bus, train and airport bus and though we are in a relatively quiet street (so you can get a good night's sleep), the city's wonderful late late night-life is just around the corner –ideal!
Built in 1846 and turned into a backpackers in 1997, rather than going the way of some of being a modern sterile hostile, we have packed this grand old edifice full of art, character and antiquity. We think you will love it. Some people say it is more an art gallery or museum than a hostel, but it's fundamentally a place to put your feet up and relax in comfort, or join in the fun with fellow travellers.
Our receptionists will always give you a friendly welcome and can help with any questions about what to see in Edinburgh or about travel around Scotland. We aim to look after you totally so you can have the best holiday possible. Here's a list of more that we offer…..

A less noizy door lock would be good, in room "underwear". | Male

cc_m786096 from China stayed here on 24th July 2010 everything's fine,among top hostels i ve ever stayed. only one thing, the bed is quite dangerous,no handrails or anything may protect you from felling down from the upper bed...however i fell down in the morning when i tried to climb down,the ladder is quite slippery and i have nothing to hold. and my leg and feet hurtsT_T | Female

Rooms are very spacious and beds are very comfortable and clean (loved the 2 pillows each!). Shame Wi-fi can't be reached in rooms. Staff were friendly. You get 15 minutes of free internet when you check in (although when I checked in w a friend, she took the 15 min paper off one of our room assignments...apparently each party gets 15 mins, rather than each person). Great bathrooms (roomy showers, lots of hooks). Main downside: since it's rated so well, there are lots of old people! | Couple

I was traveling alone and it was nice that I could just go downstairs and meet some new people and then head out to a pub or go explore the city with someone else.
