A big thank you to our guests for recognising us as the number 1 Hostel in Scotland 2008 and 2009.
Step outside our front door and the world famous EDINBURGH CASTLE looms above!!! - stay with us in our palatial hostel for a true Edinburgh experience. Inside, our hostel offers tremendous views over the city from our bright, sunny, rooms. We also offer the best facilities, everything from WI-FI internet to a movie room! A delightful garden-patio to a traditional coal fire for those winter nights! And plenty plenty more. …. being at the very heart of the city we are just a stroll from the bus, train and airport bus and though we are in a relatively quiet street (so you can get a good night's sleep), the city's wonderful late late night-life is just around the corner –ideal!
Built in 1846 and turned into a backpackers in 1997, rather than going the way of some of being a modern sterile hostile, we have packed this grand old edifice full of art, character and antiquity. We think you will love it. Some people say it is more an art gallery or museum than a hostel, but it's fundamentally a place to put your feet up and relax in comfort, or join in the fun with fellow travellers.
Our receptionists will always give you a friendly welcome and can help with any questions about what to see in Edinburgh or about travel around Scotland. We aim to look after you totally so you can have the best holiday possible. Here's a list of more that we offer…..

The rooms are themed so that each bed has its own name. The hostel is within a two minute walk of the Royal Mile and you step outside to see the Edinburgh Castle. Best hostel I've ever stayed at. | Male 18-24 | Sky86 from Switzerland stayed here on 19th March 2010 Even though the wind was blowing like crazy so that I woke up several times I enjoyed my stay at the hostel very much. The showers are good, the rooms are very spacious and the staff is excellent! Thank you very much. | Male 18-24 | CassDebets from Canada stayed here on 26th March 2010 This was a great hostel! The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable and were happy to help plan out activities. There were lots of things to do inside the hostel as well. the only downer was there were no outlets in the rooms and you had to charge things at reception. Other then that it was a perfect hostel!!! | Female 18-24 | gatling5900 from USA stayed here on 25th March 2010 I absolutely LOVE this place! I cannot say enough good things about it! I extended my stay just to be there longer! Breakfast was great, staff friendly, accomodating and SO helpful, they offer all sorts of little extras like movies at 6 and 9pm in a great little theater set-up. Free Wi-Fi but I did have to pay for internet on the hostel computers and they do not have cameras for Skype. I will definitely come back to this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you stay anywhere else you are crazy!!!!!!! | Female 18-24 | crumrine2590 from USA stayed here on 26th March 2010 The location couldn't be any better, the free wi-fi was incredibly convenient and easy to use (though a bit slow at the busier times of day), everything is included except towels, which are only 20p. I would definitely recommend it. | Male 18-24 | stephanieringstaff6186 from USA stayed here on 01st April 2010 Very nice hostel--full of art work, great common spaces (one with a fire place!), nice staff, clean, great unusual furniture, cheap snacks available, quite dorm rooms, and even a free to use pool table. Also, a great location! My only complain would be the wifi--I had terrible service with my laptop when I could get on, which wasn't often. This could have been due to the fact that it was quite windy, but it's hard to say. | Female 18-24 |
